Ryan Caldwell has been painting and drawing from the time he was just a small child, and hasn’t stopped since. Coming from a long line of artists, native to San Francisco, you could say it was in his blood. His grandmother gave him his first easel at the age of four, and it has never stopped being put to use.
Having an interest in fashion as well, he graduated with honors from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Though he enjoyed designing and creating a garment, his true passion always seemed to lie within the sketching aspect of the process.
Since then, he has gone on to work for some of the most prestigious French leather-goods design houses. Starting as a painter, he worked his way up to becoming one of their art studio directors. In this role, he was responsible for creating designs for a wide variety of leather goods and then hand painting each item individually.
Currently, he is working as a freelance artist. The most popular commissions he recieves are family and pet portraits. Clients come to him with a list of meaningful items that they wish to be conveyed in the picture, and he puts his own playful spin on those elements, creating a truly unique piece of art.
Other projects he is busy with are painting custom images on handbags for exclusive boutiques across the US, as well as hand painting bottles for cosmetic companies. He is available for events, and can do custom illustrations for guests. In his free time, he is working a children’s book about one of his favorite things to paint - nature.
